Question

The Illinois Department of Education created a special preschool for disadvantaged children, who historically have done poorly in public school. The goal was to give these children a special academic boost before starting public school. After the first 250 children completed the program, they went on to regular first grade classes in public school. At the end of first grade it was found that they scored near the school average on first-grade achievement tests. These results suggest that the preschool program influenced first grade achievement. A. do B. do not

Explanation / Answer

Ans B) do not

The results do not suggest that the preschool program influenced first grade achievement.

There can be two possible reasons for this.

1. The average of the school included marks of weak students too , but since these preschool children were boosted , they should have performed better than the average and their marks should be above average.

2. Secondly there could be other reasons too that caused their marks to be average , and not just preschool program.
