For purposes of this assignment, the year is 2011. You are an emergency planner in a medium-sized town (20,000 residents) south of Colorado Springs, Colorado in an area known as the Black Forest which is prone to wildfires. There are two questions to this week’s assignment:

1) What are the different preparedness activities that the town’s emergency managers can participate in to improve their readiness to deal with a major wildfire event.

2) What types of exercises would you, as an emergency planner, conduct for the emergency managers,first responders, and/or the public? What agencies would be involved? Be specific in your answers to both questions.

Explanation / Answer

1) What are the different preparedness activities that the town’s emergency managers can participate in to improve their readiness to deal with a major wildfire event.

The town can keep at least two fire fighting trucks at hand , along with at least one fire fighting officer posted all the time in the Black Forest area, so that in case of any accidents, it can be acted upon at any time.

2) What types of exercises would you, as an emergency planner, conduct for the emergency managers,first responders, and/or the public? What agencies would be involved?

In case there is an accident , we need to:

- before drill, we need to give a lecture on what has to be exactly done in this situation.

- give demonstrations or drills which would prepare emergency officials in such situations.

- fire fighting agency would be involved as well disaster management teams would be involved.
