Question

I am taking an adoescent psychology class. We are asked to think about a question we'd like to answer regarding adolescent development, formulate a response that includes the question and then propose the research method best suited to answer the question. We are then asked to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the chosen research method. We are asked to consider 8 different research models: the questionnaire, the interview, case study, natural experiment, experiment, observations, ethnographic research or biological measurements.

I am proposing the following question: Do students who are eligible for free and reduced meals (FARMS) perform academically as well, better or less well than those students who are not eligible for FARMS? I am thinking that using a questionnaire would be one way to answer this question. The questionnaire would ask the student who is their quardian, how many are at home and it would ask some details about their report cards.

THe value of a questionnaire is that it can relatively easily include a large sampling quickly. The disadvantage is that the responses do not give details about other factors.

Am I on the right track or is this too simplistic? Thanks!

Explanation / Answer

Though the topic for research is a good , but before preparing the further research methods ,the confounding variables should also be taken into account. The confounding variables related to this research are physical activities, obesity, parental factors( income level, educational level ), dietary habits (habit of consuming junk food, skipping breakfast )and stress level. The research should be in such way that these confounding variables should be taken into account,so that the results of the are more valid and reliable.
