Before reading the article, I wasn’t aware of what dating violence is, neither had my friends really read about the matter or have had a first hand experience. We have heard some stories about the same, but have not given a thought about the matter much. No. Neither have my parents discussed about this matter with me. We haven’t had a one to one discussion about the same, though I have heard them ending reports and discussing amongst themselves. Probably they were planning to do the same soon, since I was informed a few days ago that I am due for a discussion. No, I do not think that the society is doing enough to inform the public about dating violence. Neither is there too much discussion, nor do we hear our parents talk openly about the same, as neither are they too aware about it. Moreover, when such instances do occur, we haven’t seen any of our friends hare about the same, or talk openly, maybe because they are ashamed of sharing about the same, or that many of them don’t realise it, such as the case of financial abuse. Many times, people are also not aware that they have entered into an emotionally abusive relationship, and hence awareness is less. In order to protect themselves from such abuses, it is important that would first realise that they are in an abusive relationship. It is important that they learn that their self respect is important, and when they are in such a relationship, they are taken for granted by the partner. The partner does not really love them, but the feeling that they have someone to excercise control on, and hence it is more than important that people realise that they are in an abusive relationship. Once the realisation occurs, they would realise that they need to come out of such a relationship and only then such a situation can end.
