This assignment was designed for you to examine a leader's role in maintaining an alignment between organizational culture and structure in the operations of Biotech.  

Your group will create a video, using the picture of the forest and trees and the case scenario below to discuss the relationship between organizational structure and culture. For the video, provide a written transcript to accompany the video.

Scenario

One of Biotech's largest suppliers of echinacea has come to Maria Santos, the Department Head of Purchasing with an offer of 100,000 pounds of echinacea, which has been genetically modified. It would be a substantial savings to the company were Maria to accept the offer. The producer/seller assured Maria that the echinacea was produced without any type of fertilizer. Maria decides to forego the offer.  

You will: ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS BELOW:

Identify whether the forest represents the organizational structure or organizational culture, and explain why;

Identify whether the trees represent the organizational structure or organizational culture, and explain why;

Discuss the relationship between the forest and the trees (organizational structure and organizational culture)? Can one exist without the other? Why or why not?

Justify how Maria's decision supports the relationship between organizational structure and culture. To support the justification, review the Biotech Company Profile and determine what factors led to Maria's decision.

Forest and tree model - when it is necessary to operate multiple unit under separate domain name system (DNS). Each tree within the forest can be autonomous and independent of other. But in actual there is certain dependency but each tree get identified separate identical organization.

Forest represent organizational structure or organizational culture- From macro point of view, forest are classified according to major content types of tree, If major portion involve grass species then it will terms as Taiga type, where as other type tropical & temperate. Each type characterized according to location & clime this represent structure. Where as due to environment exist in all three type differ and hence there is different in culture viz, types of animals & utility of available forest produce .

Tree represent organizational structure or organizational culture- From micro point of view , tree are represent independent living system which exchange certain things with environment. Its root zone supports major input & different climatic & weathering condition process this input in to output in terms of FRUITS or wood as raw material. Different institution develop by using raw material received from specific tree as ayurveda medicine. Again this develop new culture.

Thus there is interdependence of culture and structure. Disturbance in one directly affect the existence of another. Culture is directly supporting & inputs to maintain structure. Absence of culture weak the robustness of structure.

Maria Santos denied offer because he/she respect more to culture as culture support to maintain the structure of particular forest or specific tree. Also such bulk purchase may result in disturb in ecological balance and culture. Again genetically modification holds commercial orientation but it directly affect to culture maintain by nature.
