Self-regulation refers to the ability of an individual to control, monitor and altering the emotions, behaviors, thoughts according to the situation. It gets influenced by various aspects like brain maturation, genetics an social maturation.

These parents are very strict and controlling, and enforce the rules using thret and punishment. Misbehaviour of the children is considered a serious threat to the rules and discipline.

Children tend to obey authorities. They internalize and accept the norms and do not engage in deviant behaviour as they think that "If I make a mistake, then I will be punished". As a limitation, the children are not used to making independent choices and full responsibilities.

Parents in this type of parenting styles avoid confrontations and overt use of power to shape and regulate children's behaviors. They believe in autonomy and equality in decision making.

The complete lack of limits and no consistent routines and orders lead to a sense of insecurity in the children, but they have high social skills and high self esteem with low levels of depression.

The parents adopting this parenting style have a form control over the children and their standard of behaviors are also high. They are assertive but not intrusive and restrictive. They are very supportive and cooperative towards the children. They make an effort in helping the children, understanding them and being present for them physically as well as emotionally.

These children tend to do well in their school are self confident and goal oriented. They have well developed social skills and emotional regulation.
