Choose a research topic that interests you and develop a hypothesis. Answer the following items, which should be part of your research plan:
1.Identify the target population and accessible population addressed by your research hypothesis.
2.Describe the sampling method you will use. If you plan to use a combined sampling method, then identify each method you plan to combine. Make sure you identify exactly your procedure for selecting participants.
3.Explain how the sample you select is, or is not, representative of the target population.
Explanation / Answer
The topic that is of my interest is to assess the relationship between self-esteem and optimism among young adults. So the topic of my research will- ‘Self Esteem and Optimism among Young Adults’.
The target population for my study will be young adults on whom the research will be conducted. The research will be used by academicians, and other fellow researchers to further the research results. It will aid in the literature on self-esteem and optimism also.
As this will be an ex-post facto research, the sample of my research will be purposive in nature. This means there will be certain inclusion and certain exclusion criteria that will be taken care of when selecting the participants. I will ensure, that the respondents of my study are college going young adults who have been reared in urban areas belonging to middle income socio-economic starta of society. They must have completed their graduation and living in nuclear families falling in the age range of 22-25 years.
The sample will comprise of 500 such young adults. The data gathered on more than 30 respondents is considered large enough to make generalizations about the whole population. Heterogeneous group of respondents will be taken for the study. Therefore, it will be representative of the whole population.
