Explanation / Answer
Yes, there were different rules/expectations from a boy and a girl in my family/culture. Me being a girl and having a sibling of the opposite sex, I had to be back home before dawn. I was not allowed to go out of home after it was dark. I had a curfew time imposed on me. I was very rarely allowed to be out till 10pm. However, on the other hand, my brother used to come home late everyday. He used to be out on most of the days. I demanded equality from my parents and they said that I was a girl and he was a boy, he could stay out till late and I could not because it's unsafe.
Another major expectation in my culture was, it is important for a boy to get a job after graduation but not as much for a girl. My family pressurized my brother after graduation to get a job to eventually settle down and have a family. However, when I graduated my parents were very easy going with me. They said I did not have to take up a job if I don't want to and that they would take care of me until I am not married, once I am married my husband would take care of me.
I have always been vexed by the inequalities based on gender. However, changing the society or culture is a long and a time taking process. But, we will get there someday.
