Learning theories provide a pedagogical basis for understanding how students learn. A daily lesson plan is developed by a teacher to guide class learning. They state what the students are expected to learn, how they are going to learn it, and the expected outcomes.

4. Lesson plan element - Conduct learning probes
Supporting theorist - Jean Piaget
5. Lesson plan element - Provide independent practice

6. Lesson plan element - Assess performance and provide feedback

7. Lesson plan element - Provide distributed practice and review

The following explains as to why lessons containing these elements are effective:-
1. State learning objectives and orient students to lesson
It is necessary to acquaint students with what they will be learning presently and why it is important. Teachers could begin by relating current lessons to past and future lessons.
2. Review prerequisites
The student should have the required knowledge for the current lesson in progress. This is important to further proceed with the lesson concerned. A review could remind the students if what they did the previous day.
3. Present new material
Teachers should present new information about the lesson in concern with many concrete examples and demonstrations. Lesson structure and clarity should be kept in mind.
4. Conduct learning probes
Teachers should regularly probe their students understanding of the material being presented. Learning probes give the teacher feedback on the students level of understanding.
5. Provide independent practice
Teachers should give students an opportunity to work alone. This can be achieved through guided worksheets and assignments.
6. Assess performance and provide feedback
Each lesson should contain assessment of the degree to which students have mastered the objectives that are set for the lesson. Quizzing, reviewing independent work helps in providing a corrective feedback. At this point it may be necessary to reteach some of the lesson.
7. Provide distributed practice and review
Teachers should provide homework in the form of assignments that require the students to use the content and skills in different circumstances.
