Question
PSY 230 SPSS Work For each phase of the eaperiment clearly identify the following items in your write-up: 1. The wariables 2. The null and alternative hypothesis 3 Describe the e data (mean SD, variance, sample size, other relevant info Identifythe statistic used and WHYyou choose it and whyyou didn't choose anotherstatistic instead 5 Perform the statistical analyses using SPSS (paste in table) & Describe the SPSS table (what was the t score or F ratio and other information) 7. From statistics, draw conclusions(what is the data showing support to; reject or retain mul-how did you come to that result) A college book publishing company created a new online course for statistics students which they hope to market to SMCC. This program allows students to work with Canvas to help them develop their own research methodology and statistical procedures from the comfort of their own home computer. Thus statistic students would never have to go to class! However, the professors at SMCC are skeptical if this new program will help students become better equipped after they take the course. The professors decide to conduct their own study to investigate this new program. For phase one of the study, the psychology researcher decided to have 20 students enroll in this nevw course and give them a statistics competency test at the beginning and at the end of the course. The researcher is interested whether or not the students' competency increases by the end of the course. Is there a difference from the pre and post-test?Explanation / Answer
1. Variables
Independent Variable: Pretest scores on test of statistical competency.
Dependent Variable: Posttest scores on the test of statistical competency.
2. Hypotheses
Null Hypothesis: There will be no significant difference between pretest and posttest scores on the test of statistical competency.
Alternative Hypothesis: There will be a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores on test of statistical competency.
3. Description of Data
Sample size is 20
Mean = total added scores / Number of scores
Pretest condition = 696/20 = 34.80
Posttest condition = 1079 = 53.95
Standard Deviation = square root of ( summation of mean - each score / total number of scores)
SD of Pretest condition = 15.42
SD of Posttest condition = 19.26
Variance = square of Standard Deviation
Pretest condition = 237.95
Posttest condition = 370.99
4. A Paired t-test would be the ideal statistic. This is so because we want to compare the means to see for statistical significance. Paired t-test and not independent t-test is because it is a within groups design with identical samples in both means.
