Question

Please peer review why agree or not agree.

I believe that although many times SSRI's can be effective they are not necessarily safe to use. They have been proven in research to work better than the majority of other medications but they aren't so safe. Side effects from using SSRI's include Insomnia, headaches, rash, blurred vision, drowsiness, dry mouth, agitation or nervousness, feeling dizzy, pain in the joints or muscles, and several more (WebMD). SSRI's also tend to make some people, especially young adults and children, to be suicidal. In fact studies have found that compared to taking a placebo SSRI's double the chances of suicidal thoughts. There is also a risk with too much serotonin accumulating in one's system, it can cause serotonin syndrome. SSRI's can also interact dangerously with some other medications. This is why I believe that SSRI antidepressants are not necessarily safe to use.

Explanation / Answer

Overall, would agree with the fact that SSRI antidepressants are not neccesarily safe to use, as the paragraph provides ample dimensions of its unanticipated side effects. However, I am also slightly doubtful about the conclusion drawn as the research that is spoken about is not cited. Furthermkre, the link between SSRIs and suicide is questionable as SSRIs are prescribed to individuals who suffer from mood disorders, wherein suidcidal ideation is already present.
