Explanation / Answer

According to Flavell, Metacognition is about thinking about what we think. In educational set up, metacognition will help all the learners to become aware of their awareness and in other words, knowing about one's knowledge. There are two things about metacognition, one knowledge about one's cognitive level and regulating and improving one's cognition based on that knowledge.

There are different electronic learning portfolios such as SAKAI, SALG, MAI etc. that help the students to introspect and improve their cognitive levels. For this purpose let's examine one among them, the SAKAI Electronic Learning Portfolio. This online software sends questions related to what the students are doing, how they are doing and what else they could do to improve their cognition and become aware of their learning styles. Students complete their online forms and send them to their respective teachers, who in turn analyse the answers and suggest further steps to improve. The important point about using this online Electronic Learning Portfolio is that there should be someone at the other end to provide feedback and suggestions otherwise the students won't be able to learn where they could move on from that point of evaluation.

I'll definitely use one to help myself know more about my learning style and cognitive level. It will help me understand myself and my cognition better. My problem would be to get help from my teachers because they should be using this tool as well otherwise, I'll get struck in terms of getting enough feedback and interpretation on my answers in the ELP.

Invariably, everyone can use this because it's about becoming aware of oneself and raising the bar regardless of what they study and where they work. The more one become aware of oneself, the better they perform and understand their learning style.
