Explanation / Answer
It is important to understand the course of normal human development primarily because it serves an an indication for the time periods wherein certain developmental milestones can be experienced to occur. In childhood psychological disorders, there is either a delay in or an absence of several developmental milestones which are essential for the child’s optimal functioning. Having studied normal human development allows psychologists to compare and identify these anomalies quickly, facilitating diagnosis and subsequent interventions.
