Question

For my research design class we need to conduct a researh design for an idea we have.

My research will be conducted on Dietary Intake and Academic performance. With that Im stuck on a possible research strategy (e.g., longitudinal, true experiment, quasi or non experiment? correlational, descriptive?) and research design:

Background information:

I wanted to do a between subjects design with the IV being students who eat a "healthy diet" compared to students who do not. The DV would be the self-reported GPA. and the controls would be 500 college students ages 18-25 enrolled in 12-14 credits.

Also I will have the students complete a questionnaire prior to conducting the study and possible have them complete a food journal thoughout the study to keep track of their dietary intake.

Possible Confounds:

Low Income SES, motivation, bias on self-reported GPA

Explanation / Answer

This study cannot be done with a true experimental or quasi experimental design. The best design to use for this kind of a study would be a correlational design. Here, we simply can measure the corelation between two variable, which are diet and GPA. A food journal or questionnaire can be used to record the levels of healthy food in numerical terms. and this levels or score can be put to a corelation test with the GPA.
