Based on self assessment, I got a score of 27 which indicates I am an average persuader. Areas to improve my approach to persuasion and become an effective persuader is to create rapport with the person I am trying to influence – it may sound like common sense but if they like and trust me there is a greater possibility that I will be able to persuade them. Understanding my audience is important. I need to frame my goals in a way that identifies common ground. The primary goal is to identify tangible benefits to which my targeted audience can relate. This requires conversations to collect essential information by asking thoughtful questions. Persuasion requires me to present evidence: strong data in multiple forms like stories, graphs, images, metaphors and examples. I need to make my position come alive by using vivid language that complements graphics.My arguments need to be logical and consistent. I need to be a leader who has high emotional intelligence.My connection to the audience must demonstrate both intellectual and emotional commitment. To become an effective persuader I need to cultivate an accurate sense of my audience's emotional state, and adjust my arguments' tone accordingly.
