If Sarah decides to send Nell home, should she call Nell's husband to come and get her, or, perhaps, insist that Nell go home in a cab? Does Sarah have an obligation to tell Dr. Williams about suspicions regarding Nell? her Should this incident become part of Nell's employment record? Is this incident grounds for firing an employee ? Because Nell is a CMA (AAMA) and works with patients, is it within Sarah's rights to demand a blood and urine screening for alcohol and drugs? Should the police be notified of the incident? If Nell is indeed intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol, is Sarah obligated to refer Nell to counseling at an alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility? Rubric fer to the rubric on the next page for the grading criteria for this assignment.

Explanation / Answer

Yes Nell must be sent home but it should be her choice if she wants to have her husband called or take a cab. Sarah saw that Nell had stumbled out of the car so it is the wisest decision to get Nell home without having her to drive back. If Nell is unable to make the decision on if she wants to get her husband called or get a cab then Sarah can do it for her. She and her husband could have had a fight which woud have caused her to fight so calling her husband would be more of a problemwhich is unnecessary. But although the best option would be to call her husband so he can take her straight home if not she could get the taxi to take her elsewhere or not even know where she is heading because at this stage she is even unable to handle or understand a conversation.

Sarah is the office manager and she can manage things on her own. She does not at this point have the obligation to tell Dr. Williams about this incident as this is only the first time this has occurd. She could speak to Nell before she further tells anyone else about this. She can close this situatiion before it gets messy.

As mentioned earlier Sarah would have to have a talk with Nell the next day when she more stable and able to understand. During that conversation she could identify the bigger problem and if it is worth it ans Nell promises never to do it again she could dismiss her this one time as it is just her first time of this sort of behaviour.

She could even just omit this from Nells records if she prmises to never do this again and also be more focused especially on mondays. She could be spared this one time and put on a probationary period to ensure that this osrt of thing does not ever happen again.

Yes this sort of behaviour is actually grounds for firing according to any policy but not if it is constant and the case we can argue here is that it is not a regualar occurace. But this incident could be a warning for Nell so this does not happen again or she could be fired if this happened. There is no prior warning or 3 months notice that needs to be given in this sort of circumstance.

Sarah can and must get Nell to get a urine test down to ensure that her allegations are true. This would give her some hard evidence of the situation so that Nell can not go back on her word as this is only normal to deny it if a person were asked something in a situatio like this. Especially since she is working directly with the patients she needs to maintain a certain decorum.

The police need not be notified at this stage as Nell is not in such a bad state or is not acting out due to her drunkedness. Therefore if the situation had worsened or she acted out they could be notified but at this point the safest thing for everone is to just send her back home.

We are still unsure if she is an alchoholic or this is jus a night of partying. Once she has been testes that and it can be proved that this is a regular occurance and that she is an alchoholic then she can be sent into rehabilitation and other measures can be taken in order to help her.

P.S Sorry for the previous answer as I though Nell was a man..
