Question

1. Refer to any of the early theories of motivation (Maslow’s, McGregor’s, McClellands) when answering this question. Think about your current or previous job. List 2 factors that are present (or absent) in your job that help you remain motivated (or not motivated) at work. What needs do these 2 factors help you to meet (or not meet)?

2. Refer to the 4 types of organizational justice discussed in Chapter 7 to answer this question. Recall an instance in which you were treated especially fairly (or unfairly). Work-related instances are preferable, but nonwork examples are fine too. Describe whether the instance was more distributive, procedural, informational, or interpersonal in nature. What was the source of the fair/unfair treatment? How did you feel, and how did you respond?

Explanation / Answer

Question 1)

The two factors which keep me motivated in my current job are:

> The culture of the organisation. Colleagues and reporting manager are friendly and encouraging. I feel good about being associated with the brand. This satisfies my social need of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

> The pay and employee benefits offered are good. There is job security. This satisfies my safety need of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

Question 2)

In one of the instances, one of my colleagues from other team was working against company policies for his own benefits. He was in higher rank than me. It came to my notice and informed the top management about the same. Employees involved in this tried to pressurize me . But top management followed a fair process, enquired about the situation and punished the wrong doers. This instance was more procedural as a team has enquired the situation following procedures listed in company policies and taken action accordingly.
