A supervisor in another department really irritates Keira. Keira has never shared this annoyance with anyone. One day, Keira was asked to attend a meeting led by the irritating supervisor. As Keira sat in the meeting, she had a hard time focusing on the message. Her mind was wandering through mental noise. At the end of the meeting, Keira was embarrassed that there were no notes to share. Dislike for the irritating supervisor affected her ability to listen and be a good receiver. Keira learned a tough lesson that day and made a commitment to be open to every communication, regardless of liking or disliking the sender.

Yes, I had a similar experience and the person who irritated me was my senior coworker. There was a conflict between us in the first week of my work. He scolded me in front of other colleagues for a mistake I have done. The incident really hurt me and always I felt uncomfortable in his presence even during friendly chat with other colleagues. My performance also was affected as I did not like to share my difficulties with him. Sometimes we both were the only two members available in the team in case of early morning shifts and my dislike towards him created miscommunications which resulted into customer escalations.
When I look back I can understand my response was not good and I should have handled it differently. Even though my senior scolded me on that particular day, he never tried to show any discrimination towards me and behaved normally as he does with others in the team. I can now understand that I should not have taken the incident personally. I should have analyzed the reason behind scolding me understanding the after effects of my fault. I never made the same mistake again only because of him. I learned that people may exhibit different behaviors and may respond in different ways. We should understand the reason behind each behavior which will help us to accept them and make better relationships. If we fail to do the same and live on false judgments, the loss will be only for us.
