Question
Use the questions below to help you briefly describe the process by which the parts of the 3rd line of defense would work together to target extracellular pollen. Be sure to provide a BRIEF 1 sentence explanation of each part’s function.
4a) What specific immune cells would be activated by the CD4+ T helper cells in response to an allergic response to pollen? How will these cells be used to inactivate the pollen?
4b) What chemicals (list specific enzymes or antibodies: IgA, IgE, IgG, IgM) would be produced by the cells listed in question 4a? Assume that the pollen is OUTSIDE the cells within the respiratory tract.
4c) Tired of suffering from allergies to pollen, you decide to see treatment from an allergist. Describe 1 treatment, other than anti-histamines, that could be used to neutralize the allergic response and desensitize you to pollen.
