I would like to describe about myasthenia gravis. Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disorder in which auto antibodies are formed against the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This blocks the conduction of nerve impulse from the nerves to the muscle fibers. The most commonly affected muscles are those of the eye and face resulting in drooping eyelids. The diagnosis can be made by edrophonium test. The treatment includes anti-acetylcholine esterase inhibitors (pyridostigmine), atropine, plasmapheresis, intravenous immunoglobulins, prednisone and thymectomy.
