Question

Q9

For O Louis Guglielmi's painting Relief Blues examine the female figure to the left of center in the foreground.

To solve this problem of anatomic accuracy in figurative painting, start with the basic anatomic landmarks that can provide information about the underlying structures.

First, identify the anatomic landmarks that you can use to locate features of the musculoskeletal system from which we can estimate body proportions (if you are unsure of anatomic landmarks, see Atlas B in your text).

Compare those proportions that you see to the proportions we expect among anatomic features.

How do the body proportions in the painting compare to the “standard” proportions? Do all the figures in the piece have similar proportions?

What landmarks can you use to help you to gather evidence that you can use to resolve this question?

Does the Guglielmi painting show body proportions that are unrealistic, or would you conclude that he was capturing one example of the normal variation in anatomic form and proportion in the human body?

HINT: Think about using a part of the body as a reference for other measurements, as you did with the "rule of heads" lab activity.

Explanation / Answer

For O Louis Guglielmi's painting Relief Blues examine the female figure to the left of centerin the foreground.

To solve this problem of anatomic accuracy in figurative painting, start with the basic anatomic landmarks that can provide information about the underlying structures.

1. First, identify the anatomic landmarks that you can use to locate features of the musculoskeletal system from which we can estimate body proportions (if you are unsure of anatomic landmarks, see Atlas Bin your text)

Answer : Mental to clavicle, mental to mammary line, mammary line to umbilicus, umbilicusto bottom of pubis, bend line, bend line to bottom of patella, middle of patella to plantar surface, upper brachial, Antebrachial, hand, and plantar.

2. Compare those proportions that you see to the proportions we expect among an   atomic features.

3. How do the body proportions in the painting compare to the “standard” proportions? Do all the figures in the piece have similar proportions?

Answer: The body proportion in the painting are shorter than standard proportion, some of the body part seem bigger than actual size. All figure in the piece have different proportion. No all part body seem symmetry and some seem bigger than other

.4.What   landmarks can you use to help you to gather evidence that you can use to resolve this question?

Answer: The landmarks that help me to gather evidence are mental to clavicle, umbilicus to bottom of pubis, and mammary line to umbilicus. When we used head as measure these landmark ,these body part not follow stand measure that describe in rule of head. Each part seem smaller compare to the head size.

5. Does the Guglielmi painting show body proportions that are unrealistic, or would you conclude that he was capturing one example of the normal variation in an atomic form and proportion in the human body?

Answer : Guglielmi painting show body proportion that are unrealistic because in the rule of heads that use to measure body by using anatomic landmark to measure. In this painting, the size of the head is large. When I used that size of the head to measure by using rule of head, each part of anatomic landmark are smaller
