When extracellular K+ is slighlty elevated. Less K+ will leave the nerve cell when itis repolarizing and as a result the cell will stabilize at a resting potential that is higher than normal. The resting potential is closer to threshold. Since a cell fires when its potential reaches resting potential, this cell will fire more easily The patient will experience cramps and tingling.
