35. Spleen is the lymphatic tissue measuring about 12 cms in length and is located in the left side between stomach and diaphragm. Spleen consists of two kinds of tissue matter called white pulp which is lymphatic tissue and contains mostly lymphocytes and macrophages. Red pulp consists of blood ,RBCs, macrophages , lymphocytes and granulocytes. B and T Lymphocytes after their maturation in bone marrow thymus gland respectively migrate to lymphoid tissue and spleen where they carry out immune functions while as spleen macrophages destroy blood borne pathogens by phagocytosis.
