A sixty-seven-year-old Caucasian male presents to the office complaining, “I have a bump on my eyelid.” Since his retirement 7 years ago, he has moved to Florida where he is an avid outdoorsman, golfer, and fisherman. Examination reveals a well-circumscribed, indolent, raised, waxy 8mm lesion located on the lateral 3rd of the left lower eyelid. The mass has been slowly growing over the past 3 years and is without ulceration or bleeding. Palpation of the anterior and posterior lymph nodes reveals no enlargement.

What is the diagnosis? I believe its some type of cancer

Eyelid bumps can develop suddenly or gradually, appearing as a knot beneath the skin or a surface growth. Common causes include a sty or blocked oil gland. Non cancerous and cancerous growths can also be possible culprits.

According to given case history, the patient appears to be suffering from Chalazion.

A Chalazion may occur following the stye or from hardened oils blocking the gland. The eyelids contain meibomiam glands, that secrete an oily substance that lubricates the eye and slows evaporation of tears. A blockage in one of these glands causes an eyelid bump called a Chalazion.

Chalazion that develops gradually, as in given case, are often painless and typically appears as a firm lump with minimal eyelid discoloration and swelling.
