Part D: Application 1. If you repeated the agar cu experiment ssing nSontasg a moles ule that was twice as largc as the NaOH, would vou ext the molectale eo have dhtfused into the Iblock more or less than the 2. why did the agar cubes change color when you put them on The diameter of a cell is 40 pm. You want to make a model of this cell where 1 em represents 0.S m a. Whar would be the diameter of the model cell? b. How much string would you need to cut to make this cell? 1. Cells in the intestinal lumen have micovilli. Explain why Anatomy and Physlology | Laboratory Manual

Explanation / Answer

1. The amount of diffusion would be decreased when a molecule twice as large as NaOH. The rate of diffusion of the molecule happens from each side which would be similar to NaOH but take a different amount of time to diffuse because they are different sizes. When the surface area to volume goes down it takes longer for the molecule to diffuse into the cube.

2. The NaOH in the solution is diffusing into the cube by which it is diluting dye colour due to which there is a loss of colour from the cube.

3. The diameter of the model cell would be 80cm

You might need a string which is larger than the diameter of the cell.

4. The microvilli in the intestinal lumen form structures called brush borders. They increase the surface area for the absorption and provide energy with which to utilize that area to the greatest extent.
