ABSTRACT:
systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterodegenarative disease ,which is auto immune in origin and is characterised by the presence of antibodies directed against the nuclear antigents.it is a multisystem disease ,and patients can present in vastly diffirent ways.

epidemology of lupus the prevalance of the SLE is a 5 million people world wide has disease burden SLE is adisease of multifactorial etiology mainly prevalance in USA,AUSTRALIA, ASIA AND EUROPE .In the united states is 20 to 150 cases per 100,000. in women prevalance rate vary from 164 (white) to 406,per 100,000.estimated incidence rates are 1 to 25 per 100,000 in north america ,south america,austrlia and asia. the disease appears most common in urban than rural areas . in the united states , prevalance of SLE is higher among the african americans and hispanic americans . financial cost is based up on the disease baseline
etiology: lupus is an auto immune disease .this means that the bodys defense system attacks healthy tissues instead of attacking only things like bacteria and viruses. this phenomenon is known as friendly fire . it may effects other body parts.
sign and symptoms:
diagnosis: lupus is chronic and complex, and is often difficult to diagnose .there is no single laboratory test to diagnose if, person have lupus.
treatment : primarily immuno supressive are given to the lupus patient
ex: hydroxychloroquine and corticosteroid.
second line drug is methotrexate in its low dose schedule .

conclusion: an appreciation of the many facets of SLE is essential ,including a recognition of the current limit of our knowledge about the disease and its management . a better understanding of pathogenesis of SLE PROMISES TO provide much information about the nature and role of the immune response in this and other disease.
