You must use excel sheet supplied and fill in all the cells required.

Column 1 is minutes and has been filled in for you. Also first amounts in minute one have also been entered in the appropriate columns.

Column 2 is O2 used which is what I have given you in the assignment for each minute during the exercise and in recovery.

Column 3 is Steady State (SS) which is the amount of oxygen reached when you have matched the oxygen need of the task.

Column 4 is Resting O2 consumption which is 0.25 and does not change

Column 5 is O2 Deficit – This is the amount of O2 needed to reach steady state but did not have (green).

Column 6 is O2 Cost of exercise for each minute (blue).    This is attained by subtracting the resting O2 from the amount used in column 2. Do this for each minute until SS and add and this gives the total O2 deficit.

Column 7 is O2 Debt (orange) – This is only started during recovery and is the O2 used above resting after the exercise stops.

The following are the numbers in liters/minute of O2 consumed for each minute during the activity and recovery phases.

Minute 1 =1.05      Minute 2 = 1.65           Minute 3 = 1.80     Minute 4= 1.95

Minutes 5-10   have 2.0 per minute and is the steady state value.

Minutes 11 = 1.40        Minute 12 = 0.90     minute 13 = .50   minute 14 = .30      minute 15 =.25

To figure out debt take value given and subtract .25 for each only during the recovery aspect. Then total this to determine oxygen debt.

Total oxygen cost of the exercise = amount of O2 used above resting (blue) + the O2 debt (orange).

Then figure the amount of kcals used by multiplying the O2 Cost x 5 which is the average calories per liter of O2 utilized.
