Patient E test result is surprising because he has clear cut symptoms of Lyme's disease ( a solid, red rash on his leg and also has been suffering from headaches and fatigue) while the result is negative (green).
The test for lyme disease is very much insensitive and a negative test result does not mean you don’t have Lyme. There are many reasons for false (negative) test result: There may not have been time for antibodies to develop; suppressed immune system; or infection with a different strain of organism.
