While you are there the police bring in a suspect with a cut forearm who was arrested just three blocks from the store. You take a sample of the suspect's blood and mix it with anti-A. You immediately know that the suspect is not the person who cut himself on the broken glass in the store. How do you know this? Suppose the suspect's blood does not agglutinate when tested with anti-A or anti-B, but does agglutinate when tested with anti-Rh Would this connect the suspect with the crime scene? Explain 26
Explanation / Answer
It would be a good evidence to connect to a suspect. The Rh antigen is proteins present on membrane on the cells. Rh phenotypes are readily identified by identifying the presence or absence of the Rh surface antigen. The exact genotype of any individual can only be identified by DNA analysis.
If the blood is not coagulated by anti-A or anti-B, it means the suspect is O blood group. But we don't know whether he is Rh negative or positive.
When his blood agglutinates with anti-Rh, it means that he is Rh positive which would narrow down on getting to the suspect.
