Question

Go to www.epa.gov/climatechange/emissions/ind_calculator.html and calculate your personal emissions. Allow 10-15 minutes to do these calculations. To get accurate results collect your most recent energy bills. If you have trouble opening this calculator or if you have another calculator that you prefer to use you may use a different calculator for this assignment. If you do use a different calculator you must attach the link to your responses on the discussion board as well.

1. What were your results? Were you surprised by your findings? Why is there so much emphasis on energy use in this calculator?

2. Most scientists (97%) say climate change is real while the public support is so divided (only 35% of Americans believe that climate change will affect them in their lifetimes). How can we decide what to do when the science is clear yet the public is so uncertain, and the health risk is great?

3. At the end of President Obama's presidency he rejected plans for the installation of an oil pipeline from Alberta, Canada to Gulf of Mexico in Texas. He cited environmental and public health issues for his decision. Others have strongly criticized this decision based on political and economical factors. In March 2017, President Trump reversed this decision. In November 2107 the pipeline broke, which many have argued is an environmental health issue. What is your position? Provide a reference for your position and not just your opinion.

4. Identify one health risk associated with climate change--NO DUPLICATION OF ISSUES/DISEASES/CONDITIONS/ILNESSES.   You will need to locate outside resources to answer this question. Cite your source in the response. It is your responsibility to read ALL students' responses in order to avoid duplicating a health issue. Points will be deducted if you duplicate a health risk. Limit yourself to one health risk in Q4 so you do not reduce the options for your fellow classmates.

Explanation / Answer

1) Actually i lead a very simple life and thus as i have no luxories thus emissions are also less . I am a nature lover. Results declared are thus nnot surprising for me. Anyhow calculator is good enough to understand for every persons that what they are doing in their society.

2) Only way to control emissions is to love the nature and to sacrifice something for saving the nature , the green world. Environment science has been implemented in the course structure of the students , thus they should understand what the environment is and why they need it . But to immidiate acts rrules which are nature friendly are to implemented and stress should be given to insist peoples to be aware of these things for sake of their own lives.

3) Its definitely a pollution if the pipelines brokes and the oil got mixed in the oceans etc. It disturbs the entire ecological system . Yes its true that oil pipelines means more uses of it and more pollutions too which should be stopped. Battery operated vechiles should be used to control the emissions.

4) One health risk associated with climate change is lungs cancer , which is most common in men and womens in all the parts of the world. Emissions from the motor vechiles are responsibile for this things to a great extent . As vechiles are important to lead lfe these days thus engineers are trying to introduce battery operated vechiles which are emission less. Factories also produce emissions at high levels which also needs to be filtered and purified before discharging it to the air. Third is the plantations should not be disturbed as plants supply oxygen to us, we should not forget it anyway.
