Question
what would be your advise to your colleague, you both just graduated in your field of study. You worked while in school, in the field, you had an internship, or you work part-time in the field, but your colleague, attended school without gaining any experience in the field upon graduating, with the exception of obtaining the degree; therefore, they have little to no experience. What would your advise be to them, they have been looking for a job, but have no hands on experience in the field and they come to you for advise? If the employer is looking for specific qualifications and they have never worked in the field, but do have the degree in that field, what should they focus on in trying to obtain job in their field.
Explanation / Answer
I would advise my colleague not to be worried as the organizations recruit fresh college graduates without giving emphasis on experience. The main criteria for recruiting fresh graduates are their qualifications and their ability to learn new things. Hence the chances are more if my colleague develops his analytical as well as communication skills which are very important for performing the jobs successfully apart from course knowledge. A good resume plays an important role in attracting the recruiters and he needs to build his resume in a professional way. There are certain job specific skills that are required for performing each job and identifying the skills required for the job offered by the recruiter and getting prepared on those skills will add advantage for him. He needs to highlight the job specific skills in the resume and most of the recruiters identify the candidates by searching with key words that matches the job specific skills.
