In Maine, the coastline is rocky and in many places the evergreens march straight to the water. In other places, bluffs lined with evergreens overlook the sea. One day we saw a large sailboat driving hard toward some half submerged rocks. In Oregon, pine-rimmed bluffs usually overlook the ocean, but sometimes the trees extend to a partly submerged rocky ledge or a pebble beach. Smallislands, called sea stacks, dot this coastline much as the low wooded islands offshore in Penobscot Bay. Lighthouses can be found here and there along the coastline
