A natural experiment is a research or study that is carried in the natural setting without the manipulation of the Independent Variable, and the Dependent Variable is measured as an effect of the independent variable without the randomization of the sample. In the study of hormonal abnormalities of the children, the study was carried out in the natural settings. Those children who were exposed to abnormal levels of hormones during the third month of the prenatal development were studied, especially the girls. The girls who were exposed to abnormal levels of androgen hormone (the male hormone) in their mother's womb had more chances of developing more male like characteristics in their life than their peers. The studies showed evidences for this hypothesis. But, the important factors as cultural norms, socialization process also play an effective role in shaping such behaviors in children. Thus, these factors become the extraneous variables that questioned the internal validity of these studies.
