Explanation / Answer

1. Explicit bias is conscious bias; implicit bias is subconscious bias.

Example of Implicit bias: Sometimes, we feel intimidated by some strangers. We may not like their appearance or behaviour, or it might happen that they remind us someone of our past. We may start to dislike the person at a subconscious level, although we do not have a good knowldege about who they are. This is implicit bias.

Example of Explicit bias: A person who has been brought up among people who are extremely racists, starts developing negative attitude towards people of different background. Here, the person avoids the people on purpose(explicitly). This is explicit bias.

2. It is extremely important to understand these biases, and understand their effect on our behviour. We unconsciously develop these bias everyday, based on our situations and our environment. For example, we have to be careful not to judge ourselves or others too harshly. These biases directly affect the way we think, and affects the way we interact with certain people, or under certain situations.
