Question

1.When you are picking an apple from the pile at the farmer's market, you're making decisions based on your senses and perceptions

Describe which parts of that process (looking at an apple) are "sensation" and which are "perception". You might think about the differences between sensing the apple and simply knowing that something is an apple.

2.What does it mean for something to be subliminal?

In terms of behavior or attitudes, what are some ways in which subliminal stimuli might influence us?

Give an example that clarifies your response.

3.Pick one component of ocular anatomy and describe its purpose.

4.Pick a gestalt principle and describe its contribution to perceiving complex stimuli

5.Why do you think so much of our neural architecture is devoted to depth perception, color, and other features of vision, rather than to other senses. Think about how human societies are shaped around our visual systems.

What might human life be like if some other sense were the primary sense for our species?

Explanation / Answer

Ans. 1

The sensation and perception belongs each other, the information covering from senses or neurological information is called sensation while processed information is called perception. When a person pick an apple from farmer’s market uses senses like smell, shape, color etc. while the process of perception begins just after the sensation when we use information to choose the apple or not.

Ans. 2

The subliminal stimuli are stimulus below the threshold of human sensation or conscious sensation. The subliminal stimuli activate in specific regions of brain and help us to create proper perception.

The given example, subliminal stimuli are experiences and taste which can be taken before. For example, if we pick an apple, we use our experiences of taste, colours which influence our perception and choosing the right apple.

Ans. 3

The eye is our sense organ which help us to get visual information. The eye has number of components which includes but are not limited to cornea, iris, pupil or retina. The information from eyes processes in the brain’s visual cortex which combine with pre information and experiences so that we see the things as it is rather than what our eyes send the visual information.

Ans. 4

The gestalt theory describe the insight ability of a human, we see things in shape rather than in parts. Wertheimer explained the information processing which possesses in brain does not divided into parts, we get information and use our experience to get appropriate information, rest of information erased by brain to acquire new information.

Ans. 5

The visual information includes colours, depths and size but we see different from eyes what we understand from brain, the human development shaped around vision because the visual information provide many facts rather than other senses so that we believe more in visual information than other sensation.

If our primary senses change, the human life could be more complicated because we need more and accurate information. If we talk about a person who is blind from birth, we can see the use of more senses to get right and useful information but our visual sense done this job alone, we just confirmed given information and combine it with other sensation.
