Question

The behavior of individuals and institutions may be affected by implicit bias. Take a look at a local institution, and assess how it reflects dominant and marginalized people and cultures. Start by reminding yourself (researching, reading up on) the nature of ethnocentrism. Then choose a group/organization/institution to evaluate. Take a look at LWTech, your employer, the Social & Human Services program, a club or team, a social or political group, a profession, an organization you are involved in... Choose one you have good access to. Preferably you would be able to review their physical space, publications (written and online), and observe their members/staff. Consider how this group reflects one or multiple points-of-view. How inviting is it? Who holds power? Whose stories are told (or not)? What assumptions do they make? Whose values show through? Which groups would feel welcome, or not? Concepts of institutionalized racism and oppression are relevant.

Explanation / Answer

There is a natural propensity to assist listed greatly with someone thing or seomone that we have a sense of familiarity with, this might stem from crude intentions or a benign intention, but it nonetheless gives birth to something we call as implicit bias, this form of bias usually transpires at a more subliminal level than at a conscious level.

This obvioussly is practiced greatly when there are people who are fewer in a number, or who do not fall within the purview of a group you originally associate with. This unconscious level of bias is more harmful than the explicit bias as people do not realise that they are actually affecting someone.

Ethnocetricism is a process or an activity that usually lead to the conceptualization of Implicit or explicit biases, as, in this, people generally look at another culture through the lens of their own culture. Which obviously leads to judgement and incongruency.

If we are to look at Trump administration we can see a clear trend of implicit bias being practiced by his cabinet members due to the string infucne that trump has with his verbose bias towards all races other than white, be it black, Islamic or Hispanic.

There various points of views that focus on the apparent failing if these cultures and a practice of white supremacy. They make assumption of these people being criminals, or part of non state and radical groups.

Institutional racism is quite visible in the Trump administration with its dogmatic regimes and peripheral pushing of other cultures (and gender).
