Sensation & Perception
Alternate Lab: Vestibular Sense (this is the activity) just want to know number 5
This lab involves physical activity – you are responsible for determining if you are capable of doing the actions yourself or asking someone to do them in your place and then observing/discussing the results to answer the questions below. Make sure you take a break between each question so you can return to a neutral position / level of activity.
This is the activity and what I have been answering. I would like to answer question number 5.
1. Stand normally – feet roughly hip-width apart, arms at sides. Describe how this act of standing feels (e.g., steady, like hard work, jittery). Stand on one leg for at least 15 seconds (preferably 30 seconds). Describe if/how this feels different than standing normally. Is your body doing something different? What cues are you using to stay upright? Stand on one leg with your eyes closed for at least 15 seconds. Describe if/how this experience differs from having your eyes open. What has changed in terms of the role of the senses in the activity? What is your body doing to remain upright?Spin around in a circle 5 times, then stand on one leg with your eyes closed. How long could you do it? What happened? What is going on with the senses to cause this reaction?
5. Thinking about the different aspects of the vestibular system – come up with your own variation of this activity (note: it has to be plausible, but you don’t have to do it if you are missing something that would make it work; this can be a theoretical answer). What would you expect to happen and why?
Explanation / Answer
That type of standing gives me a proud feeling with no tensions in mymind and body , and I can feel more open minded to myself.
Standing in 1 feet for 30 seconds is tough for the person who dont have practice to do it. They will feel lack of balances. I can stand in 1 feet for 1 minute or more and feels my body is quite fit to do that. Only the pressure on the feet of the leg on which I am standing needs to be controlled and have to control the other unnecessary movements of the body to maintain the balance.
Standing in one leg with eyes closed gives me some insights regarding myself only as eyes are closed so outer informations are not reachable to me through visions. Only I can heard, thus there is an eagerness to open my eyes also to see what all I am missing. In terms of senses body will be on high alert to protect the balance. Body has an auto effect on the senses and the neuro motor activity which commands the body to take neccary steps to maintain balance and body generaly will not lean forward .
Hardly 5 seconds I can stand in that position after spinning and as all my mind will spin internally then it will be tough to run my any of the thought processes also. My sesnses will also not work properly and some vomiting tendency may come to me.
