Hypochondriasis is a psychological condition in which a person strongly believes that he has a disorder which is serious and may be life threatening, even though there are only no or mild symptoms of illness seen in that individual.

Hypochondriasis is now describe in DSM 5 as somatic symptom disorder and illness anxiety disorder.

Eg person with chronic headache will feel and believe he has brain tumor and undergoes number of investigations even if not required.

Eg 2. Person with mild diarrhea believes he has stomach cancer or HIV due to which he is not going to live any more.

Reasons for stigmatisation can be many as in

- discriminating the individual with mental illness in all the arenas

- negative potrayal of such individuals with mental illness by the media.

All these things lead to stigmatisation of mental illness due to which majority of the people doesn't come out for help.and treatment. To stop mental illness from increasing now should fight stigma and also people be made more aware of such Ilnesses so that they do not stigmatisation others.
