The skills that you have learned in this class are used throughout all stages of a counseling session. However, there are clearly some skills that are specific to the particular stages. For each of the following scenarios, write a counselor response that would clearly be an example used in each stage. You may need to use your imagination and make up further information about the situation.

Mark, one of your fellow students says: My English professor really bugs me. She reminds me of my mother-in-law, really harsh and insensitive. At least I can get away from my mother-in-law, but this course is a requirement.

Stage 1 - Introduction - Rapport building, here the counsellor constantly establishes the relationship with the client, he builts up rapport with the client. Here the counsellor would study Mark, his behaviour, his mindset. Counsellor would aslo address the current anxiety stage of the client. The counsellor would propably take Mark's history, was he taunted like this before, is Mark sensitive or incapable enough to understand this. The counsellor would make friendly relation.
Stage 2 - Assess and define the problem.Here the client would address the problem in philosophical way, he would take the nature of English teacher and Mark into consideration and also roles. The counsellor would understand what are the needs of Mark is soft and polite talking his need, which are the stressful and harsh sentences which his MIL used to throw upon. He would also understand what problems is he facing in English subject, what are the strengths and weakness. Is Mark misinterpreting any sentence of the English professor,
Stage 3 - GOAL Setting - The counsellor would help Mark in establishing time table in order to get good marks in English. As well as some points such as ignoring the the English professor and diverting concentration on many important things. Not to over think upon that topic, to do some activities which would brink Mark some or the other kind of joy as well as building a good group of friends which can help him to relax. Building on some defense mechanisms.
Stage 4 - Intiating interventions - All these things should be practise during session such as not focusing on the topic, pursuing obby or listening to the music till there is end in that thought. To check how far the is he able to control his thoughts, how far has he come out of rude talks etc.
Satge 5 - Follow up - Following up after the treatment, asking Mark to meet thre counsellor and describe his feelings towards English teacher
