Joan, playing in the grand prize round of a television game show, who answers a question, whose answer she is uncertain of
Jay, playing in the grand prize round of a television game show, who answers a question whose answer seems obvious to him
Marcus, playing a game for fun at home with his younger cousins, when he is unsure of the answer
Yuriko, playing a game at home for fun with her family, who answers a question whose answer she knows
Both A & C are equally likely to yield to informational social influence
Explanation / Answer
1. Both A & C are equally likely to yield to the informational social influence
This is because Joan and Markus are both unsure about the answer to the question in the television game show. So they are more likely to get influenced by the actions of the others to get the correct answer. In the other hand Jay and Yuriko are quite sure about their answer, therefore, they are not likely to be influenced by others.
2. Apartment to rent for 1 year
This will create most post-decisional dissonance because once the house is rented it has to be for a year. So the choice of getting an apartment has to be made for once and it would last for a year and can't change the decision for long.
3. The cognitive components are inconsistent with the affective & behavioral components.
This is because the cognitive component here is "I know that garden snakes are not dangerous" and the behavior component is "Jumping back and running back to the house" and the affective component is "fear". So the affective component is aligned with the behavioral component (fear led her to run away), however, it is the cognitive component is in dissonance as she knows it is not dangerous and still ran away.
4. All group members state, publicly, that they have an alcohol problem
This would be the most influential in changing a person’s attitude about drinking because the dissonance here will be higher and would lead to change in behavior. As they would now know" drinking causes problem and they should change the behavior"
Since there are multiple questions, I could only answer (4) suited best for my time.
