Question
Adolescence is characterized as a difficult developmental period including mood volatility, conflict with parents, risk taking and the “crisis” of identity formation. What developmental and environmental factors may contribute to these identified characteristics of adolescence? Do you believe this “Storm and Stress” experience is universal and inherent to the adolescent developmental period? If not, what other factors do you believe are important influences on how adolescents navigate the challenges of this developmental period?Adolescence is characterized as a difficult developmental period including mood volatility, conflict with parents, risk taking and the “crisis” of identity formation. Explanation / Answer
Yes Adolscent go through these phases. As per the theory of Erik Erikson, adolscent is in search of his self, hence tries to find who really he/she is? Teenager would make new friends, on order to satisfy their thinking levels, would try on new things. These are neverthless also accompanied by hormonal changes. In all these things they are likely to have fights with their parents, as parents know what is right or wrong and do not want adolscent to go in the that direction.Hence there would be fights, stress etc, mood swinging etc.
Environmental factors such when a child enters adolscent stage his/her high school or college life begins, which has more amount of liberty as per the rules or even in studies. Unlike school not all subjects are compulsary etc. in addition, there are parties hosted for such groups, such party above 16 years etc, which makes thier thouts more stronger, even some factors such as social networking encourages all these types of behaviour.
I don't think so that storm and atress always accopany. If the parent understands their child well, if they would be more of friends withir child. Stress and storm would not accompay. The parents, teachers should be friends with adolscent instead of being parents, and guiding, telling what is right and what is wrong etc. EEven channelizing this energy such as playing any sports, reading etc would help in avoiding stress and storm and would make life more colourful
