Question
When surveyed, many students have said that alcohol facilitates male bonding. If this is true, why do men rely on alcohol to bond? How might our cultural definition of masculinity support this situation? How might homophobia support this situation? What are some ways young men can bond with one another that do not focus on drinking, or destructive behavior? How might changing our cultural definition of masculinity change, and improve, young men’s relationships with one another? Why is it important to look at the problems associated with high-risk drinking through a gendered lens?
Explanation / Answer
Men have some kind of cultural liberty in our society which leads them to consume more alcohol. It is often being said that men should not cry, hence instead of expressing themselves they can just take out their frustration, worries by drinking alcohol which makes them forget. In cultre as said above men are given liberty to drink, to hang out late night, to do whatever they want to do as compared to woman which facilitates this drinking. They are told that they are dashing by nature and hence they can consume alcohol. It is said that drinking more leads to develop homophobia. Men can bond with each by talking, by discussing, they should have it in their mind that no alcohol can also stenghtehn their relationships of they hit on the bull's eye. If they can include their families it can also prohibit drinking. There are many cultures where men just meet without alcohol and discuss. There are many good cafes where you do not get alcohol but nice food to discuss or share things.
We should see men and women equally, having same emotions, having same coping strategy and we should allow mento express more just like women. We should pencourage boys to play with dolls or any such things over to cars and cycles. So at the early age they start thinking in that direction.
It is important because mostly males are involved in drinking and they are likely to commit crimes. As said above men are told from the child hood that they are fiercy and hence we usually see that men are drinking alcohol in parties and women are just taking afetr kids etc. It is never the reverse situation
