Explanation / Answer

The research is on growing number of infidelity in relationships across various societies. Infidelity is associated with various social issues as breaking up of relationship, increased divorce rate, family dysfunctions, emotional trauma, increase in sexually transmitted diseases, increase in mental depression and suicides etc.

This research focusses on the triad of personality of infidelity, that is how machiavallianism, narcissism, and psychopathology are related to infidelity. The combination of all the three is called "dark triad of personality". The research suggests that those individuals who score high on this triad are more prone to infidelity in their relationships. They are self loving, self-centered and self promoting. They lead their life with a fast life strategy. This fast life strategy includes higher levels of promiscuity, multiple sexual relationships, and antisocial behaviors. These three promotes low commitment in marriage relationship posing a threat to the relationship.

Of the triad narcissism is associated with emotional infidelity and widely occurs on the social media online platforms. Hence, is low on actual infidelity that occurs when compared to the other two on the triad. Machiavallianism strongly promotes infidelity when the relationship is casual than stronger. However, those individuals who score high on psychopathology are high on in the rate of infidelity and cannot maintain a strong relationship. They are engaged in more sexual promiscuous behaviors and derive pleasures from it.

This research suggests a higher rates of infidelity in Malaysian society because they score high on the dark triad of personality and that this research was carried out in Malaysia. But, this research has many drawbacks as it fails to consider the social contexts of various societies, the norms and behaviors of societies that permits infidelity. Also, this study fails to address manipulative side of machiavallianism associated in manipulating relationships in marriage and steady relationship.
