Question
Goal Blocked Poth Goal Choices Begin Begin Imagine you are conducting a study on the ability of animals to learn their environment. TRAINING You initially train rats using a maze configuration shown in the left image. You have the rats begin at POINT A. During the training phase rats learned to follow the route A to B to C to D turn left to E to F turn right to G to find reach the goal where food was placed. The letter H shows where a 5 watt (very dim) light bulb was whole time the rats were learning the maze. The light bulb was turned on during both the training and testing phase of the experiment.Explanation / Answer
A) According to Tolman's experiment, after single path learning, when rats will be removed to the six paths maze then rats will choose the most appropriate path due to cognitive mapping. According to learning of first maze they should choose the 3rd or 4th path that is closest from the top path. But Tolman found that they chose the path which was nearest from the goal. Even the rat was very hungry it could blind his mind but he still chose the right path.
B)- Tolman approach would lead to that prediction because he found from his maze experiment, that rats developed cognitive mapping through the learning of first maze. The map helped them to get their reward sooner.
