Barnum effect also known as the Forer effect is a common cognitive misapperception that tends to occur within individuals or collective societies even.

Barnum effect is the propensity to believe that there is a specific personal characteristic that can only be applicable to the given person in question, and is sort of 'special' to them, when I reality that characteristic is seen in most of the population.

When I see people in a party or a social environment, I immediately tend to have the notion that I am the only introvert, which affects my interaction with them as I view them loud and boisterous.

When, in reality, this is not the case and I am not the only one who is an introvert, there are many others, but it helps giving special importance to self.

Communication is always a good antidote to this bias as it aids in breaking of misnomer.

Barnum affect is the most common problem that most ethnicities encounter when having a dialogue. For instance, people of India generally attribute the feeling of being being themselves and attributing cruelty to the western world, which does not hold true as it is a generalization.
