Explanation / Answer

For every country, it’s very important to know how many citizens they have in their country. A country is not just made up of the citizens alone in this globalized economic structure of the countries, it has immigrants who live in large numbers in various parts of the country. Getting to know who is living and how many are living in a country is a reasonable question on any account. It would help the country pan its resources, wealth and welfare measures accurately. It would also help the government to know what else the government could do to make the lives of the people better.

The fear about the proposed questions in the census questionnaire is that it might differentiate people based on their living status. As the Trump administration has already taken a white support stand, it naturally brings fear in the minds of other races in the country. Immigrants on the other hand fear that they would be forced to leave the country or they will be targeted unnecessarily. It is because the government knows who the citizen of America is and who is not. This will also affect the states indirectly as most of the states depend on the immigrants’ help to run their day to day business. So a federal decision to target immigrants would definitely affect the states.
