Once you have been asked to lead a project, how would you approach working with your project team and stakeholders to define the final deliverable(s) and the success criteria that the deliverable(s) must meet? During these initial discussions, what questions could you pose to assist the team and stakeholders so they have a shared understanding of the final deliverable(s)? How could you proceed if, during the initial discussions, several stakeholders had conflicting opinions about the success criteria for the final deliverable(s)?

Explanation / Answer

While leading a project there are certain factors that we need to considered in order to satisfy all the stakeholders involved in the project like the client and employee majorly and also the organization. The approach that I will be following will be quite transparent so the client is aware of the status of the project and we will be giving a demo of our progress every alternate week in order to resolve discrepancies between the expectation of the client and the team. Initially the expectation of the client is very much important because they need to accept the project therefore it is better to discuss this at a detailed level with the client and also the quality standard the team needs to maintain and the acceptance criteria so that there is no issue in the user acceptance phase of the project.

In order to provide a shared understanding for both the team and the client we need to have the details of few aspects which will make things clear and for that there are some questions that we need to ask.

Conflicting opinions are very common in the initial phase because we tend to have confusion before we have even started, so in order to make the project a success, the ideas and opinions needs to be considered and the best and suitable solution needs to be accepted which will yield the best result for the organization, employees and the client. The project team should present an idea which will provide the basic details so that the client is convinced and can change any plan according to their requirement.
