Question

1. A study was conducted to investigate the association between obesity and television watching. A sample of people from the population were polled and asked about their height/weight ratio and the number of hours of television they watch per week. This study gave insight as to whether obesity and television watching are associated, but it did not help to determine which might cause the other. In other words, it is not known if obesity causes more television watching or if more television watching causes obesity.

Explanation / Answer

Since the study did not examine whether one variable is causing the other( no causal relationship established), there is NO outcome variable( dependent variable) and NO exposure variable ( independent variable)

study design: Survey (descriptive study). When the aim of a study is just to describe a population, it comes under descriptive research.
