Scholars studying the self fulfilling prophecy believe that educating teachers about their beliefs is not an effective strategy because they recognise that having individuals alter and modify their expectations of others is a challenging task. Moreover, teachers are required to deal with large numbers of students which would make it even more difficult for them to adjust their expectations. Some of the practices that educators and administrators can engage in in order to limit self fulfilling prophecies are:
1. Observing how each student behaves and interacts with others, while noting their strengths and capabilities.
2. Listening to students to understand their needs, goals and their perception of themselves, their peers and their educators/administrators.
3. Engaging with the students to carry out full-fledged discussions and debates with them.
4. Experimenting with one’s own teaching and instructional methods, along with how one reacts to students displaying particularly challenging behaviour.
5. Meeting students outside the classroom setting and offering an opportunity of interacting with them beyond the student-teacher relationship.
6. Reaching out to gather information about the actives students enjoy after school hours, creating projects for them to display their interests.
7. Reflecting often on one’s practices, how one is perceived by students and how one can attain a more balanced perspective of students.
