Question
Learning Participation For each of the following identify the General type of learning as well as the specific if applicable: for example the general type of learning might be classical conditioning and then explain the stimuli and the response or another example would be Operant conditioning and the specific might be negative reinforcement 1.Susan's mother wants her to learn the piano and insists that she practice every day. If she practices without distraction her mother often gives her a cookie. 2. Pedro is thinking about how to measure the length of his boat without having a tape measure. He decides to use his hands which are about 6" long as a general unit of measurement because he had seen a video of the ancient Roman's doing it on the History channel the other night. . 3. Marissa is trying to work out a math problem that is different than the ones that her math instructor was demonstrating this morning. After looking at the problem for a long time, the answer just pops into her head. 4. Malik had a Burger King Whopper about a month ago which made him violently ill. Now even the sight of the Burger King logo makes him nauseous. Little Lynette has a problem with swearing. Every time she says a bad word her mother gives her a time out and now the behavior is starting to decline. .5. 6. Viviana has been exploring the streets of San Francisco all day buying souvenirs. Her brother asks if she can direct him to a little shop that she had visited and she tells him step by step how to go there. 7. Hiram is afraid of balloons and believes the reason stems from a specific incident at the Bok Kai parade when he was young. He was holding a pretty red balloon when his brother set off a fire cracker right behind him and he was terrified. This is how he thinks he got this phobia.Explanation / Answer
Exampel 1. Susan is learning through operant conditioning.
General type - operant conditioning
Specific type - positive reinforcement based learning ,in which susans learning is based on learning new behaviours through association between positive stimuli or cookies she gets and thus is learning how to play piano.
Exampel 2. Pedro's learning is based on principle of constructivism , which states that individuals construct new ideas or concepts based on prior knowledge or experience. In this Pedro has knowledge that we can measure things with the help of our hand ,he acquired this knowledge before and when required he is applying the same to solve a problem faced.
Exampel 3. Merissas learning is based on cognitivism. This principle of learning states that learning occurs through internal processing of information, internal mental processing , so she solves the problem with solution that pops in her head.
Exampel 4. Malik has learned that burger is not good through classical conditioning.
General - Classical conditioning.
Specific - conditined stimulus is the burger and unconditioned stimulus is Burger King logo. Due to conditioning Malik has nausea even on exposure to unconditioned stimulus.
Exampel 5. Operant conditioning.
Specifically negative reinforcement. Due to negative stimulus that is received ,bad behaviour is unlearned and weans off gradually. Due to frequent time out sessions Lynnette swearing behaviour declined.
Example 6. General principle - conditioning/ conditioned learning
Vivanas mind is conditioned and now her memory can associate the conditioned stimulus with unconditioned one and so she remembers the streets. When she bought the souvenirs she felt good and she associated the feeling with the shop ,again when her brother asked her she could remember same feeling and thus the location of the shop.
7 . General type of learning is classical conditioning, he associated the red balloon with the fire cracker and thus felt feraful of the red balloon too.Balloon which was a neutral stimulus had now become conditioned stimulus ,and was associated with conditioned response of fear so developed fear for balloon too.
